Overview

CV Generator: Step-by-Step Feature Expansion

The CV Generator was a new product introduced to the platform, inspired by competitor offerings and the need to enhance user experience. Since it was an iteratively supported product, many features have been added step by step.

Its development coincided with a full platform rebranding, aligning the new tool with the platform's refreshed identity and goals.
Collaboration

Cross-Functional Collaboration for User-Centered Design

Initially working in tandem with a Senior UX Designer on the CV Generator, I later took over as the lead designer for this product. Throughout the project, I collaborated closely with product owners, developers, and researchers, moving from ideation to implementation.

Using mainly tools like Figma for designing and prototyping and Miro for ideation workshops I facilitated seamless collaboration.

Drawing on competitor analysis and market insights, we shaped the product to meet user needs and enhance its competitive edge. User testing and feedback surveys provided valuable insights, guiding iterative improvements that boosted both usability and engagement.
User Problems

Understanding User Pain Points

The user problems identified in the initial phase of creating the CV Generator were:

Time-Consuming and Confusing CV Creation Process:

Users find the process of creating or updating a CV overwhelming and time-consuming, especially when unsure about formatting, content, or structure.

Lack of Confidence in CV Quality:

Users are unsure if their CVs meet industry standards or effectively showcase their skills and experience, leading to uncertainty in the job search process.

Outdated or Incomplete CVs:

Users may not be aware of the latest trends or required sections in a modern CV, leading to outdated or incomplete resumes that fail to attract employers.
Through these designs, we tackled core user problems by leading users step-by-step through CV creation, making the experience intuitive, reliable, and enjoyable:
Goals

Helping Users Create CVs with Ease

The primary goal was to develop an application that enables job seekers to create CVs and apply for jobs directly on our platform, with a strong focus on mobile accessibility.
My Approach

Designing with Users in Mind

Overall, the process was characterized by a strong focus on user needs, comprehensive research and analysis, and continuous improvement of the product based on feedback and data.

Empathize

We initiated the process by conducting in-depth research to explore user needs, perceptions, and experiences. This involved on-site surveys, user interviews, and a detailed analysis of competitor products and market trends. Through this comprehensive approach, we gained valuable insights into user needs and identified potential pain points, which guided the development of our solution.

Define

In this stage, we outlined the design objectives for the new product, concentrating on enhancing the user experience of the job platform and effectively addressing the identified pain points. This happened in close collaboration with Research, Product Managers and also Developers. Later on features such as a personalized onboarding experience were included.

Ideate

We conducted ideation sessions with the product owner and developers to brainstorm solutions and define the functionalities for the new product. This collaborative approach allowed us to explore various ideas and refine our direction based on feedback received.

Prototype

Collaborating with the senior designer, we developed figma prototypes that embodied the ideas we generated for this new product.

Test

Before implementation we did many rounds of usability testing. After implementation, more tests such as A/B tests were conducted to assess the effectiveness of the changes. This involved analyzing conversion rates, user feedback, and other metrics.

Iterate

The process of product development and optimization was iterative and ongoing. Based on collected data and user feedback, continuous improvements and new features were implemented to continuously enhance the product and meet user needs.
Results & Impact

Measurable Outcomes and Successes

The results and impact of the redesigned Salary Planner were significant and multifaceted:

Increased User Engagement:

The introduction of an onboarding flow significantly boosted user engagement. By making the tool more accessible and removing the initial barrier to starting the CV creation process, users were more inclined to begin building their CVs.

Improved User Confidence:

Users felt more confident in applying for jobs since they had a well-structured, polished CV, reducing the anxiety associated with the application process.

Reduced Drop-off Rates:

By removing the barriers to CV creation, such as complicated templates or lack of guidance, users are more likely to complete the process and apply for jobs, reducing drop-off rates.

Increased Mobile Accessibility:

A mobile-friendly CV generator allows users to create and update resumes on-the-go, improving accessibility and ensuring they can apply for jobs from any device.

Higher Platform Adoption:

A well-designed CV generator can attract more users to the platform, particularly job seekers who want a streamlined solution for creating resumes.

Time-Saving for Users:

Automated formatting and guided content suggestions saved users significant time in creating or updating their CVs, making the process quicker and more efficient. This resulted in quicker application processes.
